Recording the show

The show will be recorded in several stages as follows. Participants will sit around a table. Place a smartphone equipped with a mic in the centre of the table. To avoid noises from chairs and other movements and to manage the rhythm, it would be best to record in several parts. The facilitator will be in charge of starting and stopping the recording.

  • Part 1: the presenter introduces the show
  • Part 2: the info brief
  • Part 3: the interview/report

The most difficult section will be the part with the reporting as you will need to ensure to start the recording at the right moment. The reporter will need to ensure that they have the smartphone equipped with a mic and that they press ‘record’ before beginning. They can mix it later on Audacity. Don’t forget to prepare in advance the news brief and the facilitation of the show (which are aspects not specifically elaborated on in the workshop series).

Mix/Produce/Edit the audio

Each participant or group will produce and upload the part they are in charge of on Soundcloud. This will put in practice, for those who were not there, the previous workshop on audio production. If participants feel they can do it, let them. To finish everyone listens to the completed podcast!

Going further

This workshop will be much easier if participants have prior experience in some of the areas elaborated in this series. It would not be a bad idea to do some introductory workshops beforehand. You could refer to other workshop plans, for example ‘What is a Source?‘ and ‘Knowing, Using Search Engines‘.
